The Cubs moved to 11-1 with a 8-3 and 12-0 sweep of the Brewers on 7/25.
On a day where the Cubs were missing the three pitchers who throw the most innings on the team, up step two unsung
starters who each go the 7 inning distance holding the Brewers to 3 runs and 7 hits the entire day. Wow! Chris
Ricker had a day for himself with his best
outing in his Cubs career. Chris set down the first 8 batters and then hit the 9th to break up the perfect game.
He gave up his first hit in the 4th and for the game gave up just 2 hits, 2 walks and 2 HBPs. His only jam was
the 4th inning where the Brewers loaded the bases with 2 outs and the cleanup hitter up. Chris got that batter
to ground out and he coasted the rest of the way.
I don't remember too many spectacular defensive plays in the game.
Eddie Murray made a huge play in the second inning of game 2 for a 9-3 putout on a line drive to shallow right.
Eddie fielded the ball cleanly and threw a bullet to first to nail the batter and prevent a hit.
The Cubs controlled game 2 right from the start, As in the first game, the
first two batters scored. Alex singled and Rich walked. Paul Sonnett and Ken followed with RBI singles. After a
1-2-3 second inning, the Cubs scored 3 times in the third. Brad and Mark Grogan started with walks. Alex
doubled home a run. Rich had an RBI groundout before Paul Sonnett doubled home the final run of the inning. After
a 1-2-3 4th inning, the Cubs exploded for a 6 run 5th. The first 4 batters reached and scored. Dennis, Andy and
Roberto Valentin all singled and then Brad drew a walk. Alex had a bases loaded triple. Ken Hamm capped the inning
with an RBI double. The Cubs scored one more time in the 6th on a sac fly from Andy who scored Eddie who had
singled to lead off teh inning. Alex Scott was 3-3 with a single, double, triple, 3 runs scored and 4 RBIs. Not a
bad game... Paul, Ken, Dennis and Roberto all had 2 hit games.
