Box Score

The Cubs rode a 10 run third inning to a comfortable 16-4 win over the Dodgers.
For the first time in team history, the Cubs are off to a 2-0 start. It is a welcome change from the last two season which both started 0-2. In this one, the Cubs exploded for a 10 run third inning and then costed to the lopsided win.

Tom Barnes picked up the win, going the first 5 innings allowing 4 runs on 8 hits. John Gordon pitched 3 impressive innings, facing just one batter over the minimum to not give the Dodgers any hope at a comeback. John struck out the first two batters he faced in the 6th. Ken Hamm pitched a scoreless 9th inning.

What an inning! The Cubs had a 10 run third inning featuring a bases loaded 2 run single by Dennis Fontecchio and a bases loaded 3 run double by John Gordon. In a 20 hit attack, almost all of the 13 Cubs players had big days. John Gordon was 3-5 with a double, 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Ken Hamm was 2-3 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Eddie Murray, Tim Shaver, Tom Barnes, Dennis Fontecchio and original Cub Dave Russo all had two hits on the day. Glenn D'Avanzo and Paul Sonnett scored twice on the day. Glenn's brother Deron made his Cub debut and went 2-2 with a double, a walk and a hit by pitch.
