The Cubs swept the Dodgers in the first round playoff series.
The Cubs beat the Dodgers 14-3 and 9-0 to move into the NLCS series against the Braves. The start of
game 1 was delayed 2 hours in order to get a very sloppy field in playing condition. In the second
game, Paul Sonnett was 4-4 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Tom Barnes was 2-3 with a sac fly and an RBI.
PJ O'Toole had a huge 2 out 2 run single in the first inning which set the tone for the game giving
the Cubs a 3-0 lead. Chris Ricker reached via error 3 times on the day. The Cubs had 4 sac flies on the day. Alex Scott and
John Gordon each scored twice in each game.
John Gordon was dominant in game 2. John allowed 5 singles and those were the only runners to
reach. Three of the hits came in the 4th inning when the Dodgers mounted their only threat. John induced
a pop up to first to end that threat. 4 of the 7 innings were 1-2-3 and one of the base hits was eliminated
by a double play from the next batter. That double play came in the first inning and was started by
John for a 1-6-3 DP.
The only bad news for the day was Ken Hamm pulling a leg muscle early in game 2 which leaves the rest of his
post season in jeopardy. The Cubs only had 10 players for the day and had to finish game 2 with just 9
players.
