The Cubs lost to the Phillies 3-1 on 8/9.
The Cubs bats were silenced by the complete game two hitter thrown by the Phillies starter. Earl Carpenter
had both singles, one in the first inning to drive home Glenn D'Avanzo who had reach on a two out error and
another one in the 8th. The Phillies starter was effectively wild, walking 10 and hitting two guys. There
was only 1 1-2-3 inning, but the Cubs weren't able to get a hit to drive in all the free baserunners.
Earl Carpenter started and went 4 innings allowing three runs, two earned. John Gordon pitched the final
5 innings, retiring the last 14 batters he faced.
