The Cubs beat the Brewers 16-1 in the second game of a double header on 7/19.
As in the first game, the Cubs used a big third inning to turn a close game into their favor. In this game,
John Gordon started and threw 4 shutout innings. John benefited from several nice defensive plays and his
7 Ks. In the first inning, the Brewers had runners at first and second with one out before John turned another
1-6-3 double play. The Cubs ended the 7th inning of the first game and the first inning of the second game with
1-6-3 double plays. Alex Scott also made a nice play on this one as John's throw to second was low. The Brewers
second inning also ended with a doubel play. With a runner at first, the batter hit a popup to second that
Chris Ricker caught and then threw to first to beat the runner back to the bag. In the third inning, catcher
Paul Sonnett threw out a base stealer allowing John to only face three batters that inning. John escaped a
first and third with one out threat in the 4th by getting a slow roller to first that Brad Adams played and held
the runner at third and then a strike out. Earl Carpenter pitched the final three innings allowing one
earned run.
All 11 Cubs batters scored at least one run in the 15 hit, 16 run attack. The Cubs scored once in the first
when Alex Scott lead off with a double (Alex was 2-4 in the game with 4 runs scored) and was brought in by a
Paul Sonnett (3 RBIs) ground out. The Cubs blew open the 1-0 game with a 7 run third inning when they
batted around. Rich Schwarz and Matt Corkum started the rally with singles. Alex reached on an error by the
third baseman to load the bases. John Gordon (2-4 3 RBIs) was walked to bring in a run and then Paul Sonnett
had a 2 RBI single. Andy Luckhardt walked to load the bases. After a fielders choice for Earl Carpenter,

the 4th on back to back doubles by Alex Scott and John Gordon and then an error by the shortstop on a Paul
Sonnett grounder. The Cubs scored in the 5th when Chris Ricker was driven in with a 2 out RBI single by Matt
