The second game of a double header with the Dodgers with suspended after 5 innings in a 6-6 tie.
It was a crazy day all the way around. The double header started at 8AM on field in Acton the team had never
played on before. It was a drizzly day and the Cubs had 9 fulltime regular players missing the game. The Cubs
had several players attend for the first time and they played a huge role in the games. Mike Dunn, Don Peterson
and Randy Sabino all played their first games for the Cubs on this day. Scott Carpenter, Matt Corkum and Dave Russo
also filled in to create one of the most uncommon lineups the Cubs have had in years. The second game ended after 5
innings because another game needed to start at 1PM. The Cubs used a 3 run rally in the bottom of the 5th to
tie the game up and we ended up suspending the game. If the game has any meaning to the playoffs, we will play
the final 2 innings on the last day of the regular season (8/16). If the game does not have playoff implications,
then we will just record the game as a tie.
Newconmer Mike Dunn
pitched the second game and while he allowed 6 earned runs, looked very good on the mound. With some defensive
help Mike could have escaped with less damage.
On offense, several Cubs had good days. The big hit in game 2 came with the Cubs trailing 6-1 in the bottom of
the 4th. Don Peterson hit a two run homer to right over the wall for the first
homer of the year for the Cubs team. Don had a good day going 2-3 with 3 walks. Glenn D'Avanzo hit bullets all over
the field, a few of them into outs and still went 3-6 on the
day. Tim Shaver caught the first 11 innings of the
day and had a tough luck day batting. Tim hit several line drives that ended up being outs and did an admiral job
defensively.
