The Cubs won the nightcap 7-3 to sweep the first round playoff series and advance to the NLCS for the first time since 2003. John Gordon gave up a run in the first and 2 meaningless runs in the 7th while dominating the middle innings to lead the Cubs to the victory. The Cubs scored 2 runs in the first on Earl Carpenter's homer over the wall in center and added 5 runs in the second inning.
