Sun 06/22/2008, Game 2
The Cubs used a 5 run first inning and the dominating picther of John Gordon to complete the double
header sweep of the Dodgers on 6/22 with a 13-1 win.
The Cubs swept the Dodgers 10-4 and 13-1 on 6/22.
As always for the Cubs, the wins were paces by great pitching and defense. In game 2, John Gordon
was dominant yet again.
John went the distance allowing 1 unearned run, 3 hits while striking out 10. John set down 12
straight batters between the second and sixth innings. Making this more impressive for John was
he had to endure a 20 minute rain delay in the second inning.
On defense, the Cubs were solid. They made just 1 error in
each game. In game 2, Eddie Murray snared a liner at third on one of the few hard hit
balls of that game.
On offense, the Cubs had a good day that was aided by walks and sloppy Dodger defense. In both games
the Cubs jumped out to early first inning leads. In game 1 the Cubs picked up 6 runs and in game 2
the Cubs picked up 5 runs. In
game 2, The first 5 batters reached and scored just as in game 1. It was the start of a big game for
the top of the order which saw the first 5 batters score all 13 runs (Schwarz, Scott, Murray scoring
3 each and Carpenter and Hamm scoring twice). Carpenter and Hamm drove in three runs a piece while
Tom Barnes and Tim Shaver drove home 2 a piece. The Cubs received 10 walks, three each from Alex
Scott and Eddie Murray.
