The Cubs 4 game win streak ended with a 4-2 loss to the White Sox in Worcester.

What a strange feel this game had. The Cubs pitched well and played solid defense. However, the offense could not get untracked against a non dominating pitcher. The Cubs scored in the first on a bloop single, 2 walks (Tom Barnes and Paul Sonnett) and a line shot to right by Earl Carpenter for a sac fly. The Cubs reloaded the bases with one out on a Kenny Hamm single but could not push across another run in the inning. The Cubs scored their final run in the third. Scott Carpenter, playing his first game since 2003 drew a lead off walk after fouling off several 2 strike pitches. Tom Barnes singled Scott to second with one out. Earl picked up his second RBI of the game with a 2 out single to left. Somehow, the Cubs managed only 3 runners over the last 6 innings and 2 of those were on drop flyballs in the outfield. The other runner was a 2 out John Gordon double.

Tom Barnes started and went 5 innings allowing 4 unearned runs to take the tough luck loss. The White Sox scored three two out runs in the 5th for the final 4-2 score. Tom allowed 6 hits, 3 walks and picked up his only strike out on his final batter. John Gordon went the final three innings allowing just one base runner.

Unfortunately the Cubs made two errors and both of those errors lead to runs for the White Sox. There were some nice plays though. Ken Hamm and Rich Schwarz both tracked down deep flyballs in the outfield. Dennis Fontecchio saved a gap double with a leaping attempt at a shot to short. Dennis had the ball for a second but the ball fell out of his glove on his way back to the earth. Paul Sonnett gunned down two runners trying to steal.
