The Cubs lost their first round playoff game for the fourth consecutive season. This year, they
fell to the Phillies 6-0 in a very disappointing loss.
The Cubs lost to the Phillies 6-0 on 8/12 to end their season in the first round of the playoffs!
A very bitter end to 2007 which was the best regular season the Cubs have ever had at 13-3. The
Cubs were held to just 3 hits and could not muster any sort of rally against the Phillies starter
Jamie Nix. The Cubs hits were collected by Eddie Murray with a bomb of a double in the first inning,
a Kenny Hamm single in the 6th and Tom Barnes single to left in the 7th. The offense was also not
helped by getting 4 runners thrown out on the bases. There were two outs at third on outfield assists,
an out stealing second and a pick off in a first and third situation.
John Gordon had a great game on the mound and deserved a better fate. John went all 9 innings allowing
4 earned runs while striking out a potential Cubs record 17 batters. John struck out at least 1
batter in all 9 innings. He also had a great defensive game making some sparkling plays on nubbers
and bunts.
It is a shame the Cubs were not able to get by the first round game. This had all the makings of a
special season. I still feel this is one of the best teams we've had in many years and it was a
pleasure to be a part of it. Looking forward to the 2008 season and seeing what the Cubs will
accomplish!
