Game 1 was the 200th regular game in team history and featured a tremendous comeback eerily similar
to the 100th regular season game. Back on 7/8/01 the Cubs were trailing the Phillies 10-2 after 5
innings and roared back to win 11-10 in 10 innings. Today, in game 1 of the 7 inning double header,
the
Cubs found themselves down 7-1 after 3 and a half innings and scored 1 in the 4th, 2 in the 5th
and then 7 in the 6th to win 11-7. What a great win in game number 200! The Cubs regular season
record is now 126 and 74 with 1 tie.
Tom Barnes went the distance and gave up 3 runs in the first and 4 in the 4th,
but otherwise was very strong.
The Cubs 7 run 6th inning had many key moments, but perhaps the biggest was Paul Sonnett's 3 run
homer with 1 out which turned a 7-6 deficit into a 9-7 lead. Paul's blast scored Alex Scott and
Eddie Murray who had RBI singles to drive in Mark Grogan and Billy Bracken. After the Sonnett
3 run bomb, Kenny Hamm doubled and Tim Shaver singled him home with a clutch 2 out hit. Andy
Luckhardt had a good game and was 2-2 with a double, single and a walk, 2 RBIs and a run scored.
