Box Score

The Cubs lost a hard fought game 7-6 against the White Sox on Father's Day.
The Cubs battled during the hot Father's Day contest versus the White Sox but could not overcome the White Sox. The Cubs led 1-0 after 2 and 4-3 after 5 and a half, but the White Sox scored 2 in the 6th and 7th innings to take a 7-4 lead. The Cubs then scored 2 in the top of the ninth and had the tying run on second base when the game ended.

The bad news in this game was Dennis Fontecchio had a serious looking knee injury while running the bases in the 6th inning. We're all wishing the best for a speedy recovery for Dennis.

The Cubs were short on players due to the Father's Day date and finished the game with just nine players. Fotunately, Matt Corkum was able to play his second game of the year from the sub list. Matt had a huge day at the plate smoking 2 doubles while driving in one and scoring one run. John Gordon played his first game as a Cub and had a good game. John was 1-3 with an RBI in the 9th and a walk. John also pitched a scoreless 8th inning striking out 2.

Billy Bracken pitched the first three innings before having to leave early. Billy looked sharp and did not allow a run in his 3 innings of work while striking out 4. Ken Hamm pitched into the 6th. Tom Barnes pitched 1 and a third innings without allowing an earned run.

Pacing the offense besides Matt Corkum were Earl Carpenter who had 2 hits and Brad Adams who had a huge 2 out single in the 6th to drive in teh go ahead run. Chris Ricker also had a sac fly in the 6th driving in the tying run. Paul Sonnett had an RBI single in the 9th and 2 walks.
