The Cubs lost the first game of a double header against the Orioles in 10 innings 6-5.

In game 1, a 10 inning marathon that was supposed to be 7 innings, the Cubs lost 6-5. Andy Schultz went the distance and pitched well. The Cubs scored 4 runs in the first inning and another run in the third and just couldn't manufacture a run the rest of the day. The Cubs had a runner at third in 4 of the last 5 innings of game 1 and couldn't find a way to score the runner. The Cubs also had a runner thrown out at home to end the third inning.

Brad Adams had a great game at first make several nice scoops on bounced throws. They also turned 2 nice double plays, 4-6-3 and 5-4-3 with Tim Shaver at second involved in both plays. Mark Grogan threw out a Oriole trying to stretch a bomb of a double to left into a triple. Dennis Fontecchio made the relay and Luis Tiant made a great tag at third. Paul Sonnett threw out an attempted base stealer in a first and third situation with a nice tag being applied by Earl Carpenter.
