In game 1, a 10 inning
marathon that was supposed to be 7 innings, the Cubs lost 6-5. Andy Schultz went the distance and
pitched well. The Cubs scored 4 runs in the first inning and another run in the third and just couldn't
manufacture a run the rest of the day. The Cubs had a runner at third in 4 of the last 5
innings of game 1 and couldn't find a way to score the runner. The Cubs also had a runner thrown out
at home to end the third inning.
Brad Adams had a great game at first make several nice scoops on bounced throws. They also turned 2
nice double plays, 4-6-3 and 5-4-3 with Tim Shaver at second involved in both plays. Mark Grogan
threw out a Oriole trying to stretch a bomb of a double to left into a triple. Dennis Fontecchio
made the relay and Luis Tiant made a great tag at third. Paul Sonnett threw out an attempted base
stealer in a first and third situation with a nice tag being applied by Earl Carpenter.
