The Cubs played a solid game but were unable to score enough runs to beat the Phillies. The Cubs had 2 runners thrown out at home and a runner at third with no outs that did not score. Those missed opportunities cost them in the 5-1 loss. Andy Schultz went the distance and pitched well. The Cubs hit some bombs in game 1, including Andy Luckhardt's triple to left and Earl Carpenter's double to center.
