Box Score

The Cubs opened up a 5-0 lead with a 4 run 3rd inning. RBI singles in that inning came from Luis Tiant, Eddie Murray and Dennis Fontecchio. Andy Luckhardt and Tom Barnes had RBI groundouts in the 6th to drive home the last two runs.

Brad Adams pitched the first 3 innings of game 2. He pitched his way out of a major jam in the third which was the turning point of the game. The Cubs had just stretched the game to a 5-0 lead. The first 4 Mariners reached on an error, single and 2 walks to make it 5-1 with the bases full and no outs. Brad escaped further damage with a K, 1-2 FC and a K to keep it at 5-1. Tom finished the last 4 innings with a sore right hammy. They combined to allow just 4 hits in the game!

There was some great defense played by the Cubs today as Chris Ricker made a diving play at third in game 1 and a dive at second base in the second game. Brad Adams made a nice catch in shallow right from first base in game 1.
