The Cubs won the 2006 season opener 26-8 over the Indians at Bauks Field at Marlboro High School.
The Cubs smacked 28 hits, 8 for extra bases and had production from every spot in the lineup.
Earl Carpenter picked up the win on the mound throwing 4 innings after Andy Schultz started
the game and threw 4 innings.
The Cubs opened the season on 4/30 against the Indians and had an incredible day at the plate. The
Cubs stroked 28 hits, 8 for extra bases, drew 7 walks, had 2 HBPs and scored 26 runs. It may have been
the best Cubs offensive attack ever. Andy Schultz and Earl Carpenter threw 4 innings a piece and
kept the strong Indians offense at bay. Brad Adams pitched a 1-2-3 9th inning. Big days at the plate
included newcomers Alex Scott who had 2 hits and 4 runs scored, Ken Hamm who was 3 for 4 with 3 doubled
5 RBIs and 2 runs scored and Luis Tiant who had 2 line drive singles. Tim Shaver was 3-5 with 2 double
and triple, 3 runs scored and 3 RBIs. Eddie Murray had 2 hits and 4 RBIs. Paul Sonnett had 4 hits
including a double and triple and 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Earl Carpenter had 3 hits including a
triple and 2RBIs and 3 runs scored. Peter DiNatale had 3 hits and 3 runs scored. Brad Adams had 2 hits
and 2 RBIs. Chris Ricker, Mark Grogan and Rich Schwarz all scored 2 runs.
