The Cubs beat the Phillies 12-3 on 7/11/04 to continue their second half roll!
This was a tighter game than the score suggests. The score was 5-3 after 3 and 7-3 after 7 before
the Cubs opened the score up with a 5 run 8th inning.
Tom Barnes went the distance allowing no earned runs and just 5 hits. He also picked a runner off
second in the second. Tom was also 3-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored at the plate.
The Cubs play on defense was a little spotty but some nice plays were made. Dennis Fontecchio
had a good day at short. The Cubs got an 8-9-5 out when a Phillie runner tried to stretch a double
to a triple in the 6th. Eddie Murray making the bullett throw to third to record the out by 15 feet.
Paul Sonnett called a great game behind the plate and was his typical brick wall self.
On offense, the Cubs banged out 17 hits to score their 12 runs. There were several Cubs with big days.
Glenn Legault was 2-4 with 2 runs scored. Eddie Murray was
2-4 with a triple, RBI and 2 runs scored. Paul Sonnett was 2-4 with an RBI. Tim Shaver had 2 RBI
singles in 4 trips. Brad Adams delivered a deep sac fly in the 6th and then a bomb RBI double in
the 8th. Wally Siggins was 2-4 including a beautiful bunt single in the 7th. Mark Grogan greeted
the Phillies reliever in the 8th with an RBI double.
