The Cubs beat the Cardinals in a 2-1 thriller to sweep the NLCS two games to none! This marks the 5th
time the Cubs have won the NLCS in the last 7 years. The Cubs went 11-0 versus National League teams
this year for the first time in team history! Andy Schultz went the first 6 innings allowing 1 run
on 6 hits. The Cardinals made it very interesting by loading the bases with 2 outs in the 5th and
stranding men on second and third with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. Andy made the clutch
pitches to escape the jams. Andy Luckhardt pitched a perfect 7th, striking out the side to earn the
save. Trailing 1-0 entering the top of the 4th, the Cubs scored twice. Glenn Legault doubled home
Rich Schwarz and Dennis Fontecchio singled home Glenn. Eddie Murray made two great plays in right
field. He threw out a runner at first to take away a sure single on the line drive to right. He
also robbed ex Cubbie Matt Finnegan on a sinking liner down the line. The Cubs did not make an
error for the third consecutive playoff game!
