The Cubs won for the fifth tiem in the last six with a blowout of the Cardinals 22-7.
The Cardinals were missing two of their best players and the Cubs took advantage of some
sloppy defense and inconsistent pitching. Andy Luckhardt started the game and had a no
hitter going through 3 innings before hitting 3 consecutive batters to start the fourth
inning. The umpire forced Andy out at that point and Tom Barnes came in to close the door.
The best defensive play was turned in by first baseman Brad Adams who dove for a short pop
up against the Cubs dugout and caught the ball. Offensively, there were several Cubs with
great days. Dennis Fontecchio went 3-5 with a double, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored to end the
season with a team leading 21 hits and .500 average! Paul Sonnett had a double, triple,
4 RBIs and 2 runs scored in the Cubs 11 run seventh inning! Tom Barnes went 3-5 and also
reached on an error. Matt Finnegan was 2 for 4 with a RBI and a two runs scored. Brian
Egan reached base in all 5 at bats going 1-2 with 3 walks and a reach on error. Brian had
2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Mike Cox was 2-3 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
