Box Score

The Cubs played their best defensive game in several weeks and came away with a win against the shorthanded Indians. Tom Barnes went the first six innings and allowed 4 runs (3 in the sixth). Chris Greig came in and pitched a scoreless three innings to pick up the save. The Cubs defense turned in two double plays, one on a great play by Dennis Fontecchio to catch a ball in shallow left and then throw out a runner too far off second base. In the ninth with Tom Barnes playing first, a groundball out led to Tom Barnes picking off an Indians runner rounding third base too far. After a brief rundown, Tim Shaver threw to Chris Greig covering third and applying the tag. Peter DiNatale also made a great diving play on a slow roller just behind the mound to get an out at first. Tim Shaver caught for 7 innings and did a great job! Offensively, Bruce Sher was 4-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Andy Schultz was 2-2 with a run scored and a perfect sacrifice bunt. Peter DiNatale was 2-4 with 2 run scoring singles.
