Box Score

Wow, another hard fought game against the Brewers and the Cubs ended up one run short this time. The Cubs trailed 10-3 entering the eighth inning but managed to score 8 runs in the eighth to take an 11-10 lead. Unfortunately, the Brewers came right back with a decisive 3 run bottom of the eighth. The Cubs continued to fight hard and scored a run in the top of the ninth and had runners at first and third with two outs when Bruce Sher lined a shot to left just inches foul. Then Bruce hit a soft liner in the shortstop hole that was ruled a catch. The shortstop dove and appeared to trap the ball while Bruce ran out the play and beat the throw to first while the tying run scored. The ump called Bruce out on the phantom catch. The Cubs played with a ton of effort today, but just came up short.

Key hits in the incredible eighth inning rally came from Andy Schultz with a run scoring double, Andy Luckhardt with a two run homer (4 RBIs on the day), Paul Sonnett with a 2 run single and Peter DiNatale with a three run triple to give the Cubs an 11-10 lead! Dennis Fontecchio had two hits on the day and Brad Adams was hit by a pitch and had two walks.
