On the weekend after July 4th, the Cubs looked a bit flat and lost 11-3 to the Braves. There weren't
too many bright spots for the Cubs, but Eddie Murray had 3 singles and Dennis Fontecchio had his
fourth consecutive 2 hit game! Andy Luckhardt pitched a very impressive scoreless inning in his first
Cub outing in 2002. Mike Cox smoked a triple in his final at bat. It didn't look like the Cubs day
when Paul Sonnett hit a bomb down the left field line about 3 inches foul in the first inning.
The Cubs just had one of those days. The Braves are now 9-2 and showed the Cubs why they are
off to such a great start. There were no big innings, just lots of key hits all up and down the lineup.
The Cubs were led offensively by Eddie Murray with 3 hits and Dennis Fontecchio with two hits and an
RBI. Mike Cox drilled an RBI triple in the ninth. One bright spot for the Cubs was Andy Luckhardt.
Andy reached base all three at bats and pitched a wonderful ninth in his first outing of the season.
It looks like Andy is well on his way to recovery from past shoulder problems.
