The Cubs lost to the Indians in week 2 7-5. This was a see-saw game that the
Indians scored last and won. The Cubs did not play inspired ball in this game,
and lost to a team it should have beaten. Hand it to the Indians, they have
taken two straight against the Cubs.
Chris Greig started but could only face 2 Indians as his back stiffened up.
Eddie Murray courageously came in to complete the first inning. Earl Carpenter
pitched the final seven innings doing a great job but taking the hard luck loss.
A better day in the field and the Cubs would have won this game for Earl. Earl
scattered 3 hits over the seven innings with only 1 earned run. He struck out
seven and hit three batters!
Offensively, the Cubs were flat but they did manage 11 hits. Tom Jette had
a great day going 2-3 and scoring a run. Eddie Murray went 2-4 with a run scored.
The Cubs didn't quit in this one putting the tying runs on base in the ninth. There
were several scoring opportunities that weren't cashed in.
Fortunately, this is just one game in an 18 game schedule. It is early in the
season yet and we still need to gel as a team. We are a strong team and we
just need to gain momentum as the season progresses.
