All Cubbies that played in this game deserve to be commended. It was extremely hot and the game went 11 innings. The players that went in both games got in 18 innings of work. This was a very hard game to come up short, but the Cubbies played very hard and should be proud of their efforts. Despite trailing in the game 4 different times, the Cubs fought back and almost won this game.

Andy Luckhardt was the starter, and he had another good outing. He pitched 9 innings in the heat and only allowed 3 earned runs and 6 hits. Andy struck out 14 more batters to bring his season total to 60 in just 35 innings. Mark Grogan closed out the game, it was good to have Mark get in some work.

On offense, there were many important game extending hits. John Sudkin and Andy Luckhardt were the stars. John was 2 for 4 with a triple and single that both drove in runs. The single was a clutch 2 out hit in the bottom of the 10th that scored Andy Schultz and extended the game to the 11th inning. Andy Luckhardt was 3 for 4 and was only missing a triple for the cycle. His homer in the bottom of the ninth tied the game at 4. Bill Keville drove in the tying run in the bottom of the fifth with a single. Brian Donnelly stroked a triple in the bottom of the 11th to drive in a run.
