Box Score

The annual Cubs roll has begun! A 17-2 mercy-rule invoking thrashing of the Indians made it two straight wins for the Cubs. The Cubs had another strong performance on defense. The best play came in the second inning when right fielder Tony Leary fired a strike to Bryon Withers who made a great scoop and tag to cut down a runner at the plate trying to score on a sac fly.

Tom Barnes started again. Tom didn't have his best stuff but was still very effective to hold the Indians to one run over six innings. Tom got the key outs with clutch pitches when he needed to. Bryon Withers pitched the last inning to notch his first appearance of the season. His heater was working as he struck out the first two batters he faced.

This was a great offensive team effort. All 12 Cubbies that played the whole game either scored or drove in a run. The Indians ace was lit up for 5 runs over four innings and then the Cubs went nuts scoring 12 runs in the fifth (5 runs) and sixth (7 runs) innings. The streak is still alive. Bryon Withers has reached base safely in all 11 at bats this season. Bryon ripped a double and a towering triple in this contest and reached by error twice. He also drove in three runs and scored three times. Other big stars in this game were Chris Dunn and Bob Zeleznik who were both three for three. Bob doubled and drove in three runs in a game he considered skipping because of an ailing finger. Thanks for playing Bob!!! Chris scored twice and had a beautiful bunt single. Brian Donnelly had his third straight 1-3 performance and he drove in 2 runs. Eddie Murray had a clutch two out single in the first to drive in a run. Tom Jette reached base in all three at bats with a single and two reached on errors.

The Cardinals should be worried for the game next week!!!
