Box Score

The Cubs played a great game against the Orioles but fell 5-1. The score was 0-0 through 5 and a half innings. The Orioles scored 4 runs in the bottom of the eighth to break open a 1-1 game.

Tom Barnes pitched another masterpiece against the Orioles, shutting down the potent Oriole offense. The Orioles must be scared to see him take the mound based on the three strong career outings he has had against them. Mark Grogan closed out the eighth without allowing a hit.

The Cubs out hit the Orioles 8-7 but just couldn't deliver the clutch game breaking hit to pull out the victory. The only run was driven in by John Sudkin with the games only extra base hit, a double. Bryon Withers was perfect at the plate with a single and 2 walks. A couple of rookies making their first starts delivered solid singles, Brian Donnelly and Eddie Murray. Andy Luckhardt and Andy Schultz are the only players to deliver hits in both games this season! It will be scary when this offense starts clicking on all cylinders!!!

Defensively, the Cubs played nearly flawlessly until that fateful eighth inning. A clutch bases loaded double play from Barnes to Withers to Sudkin was turned in the third to keep the game scoreless. Rich Schwarz had a great day in center making a diving catch in left center and throwing out two runners at home! Bill Keville snared another line drive at third base.
